About the Band 2016

Fèis Chataibh Ceilidh Trail is made up of 7 young, talented and enthusiastic musicians. Throughout the summer, they tour Sutherland and Caithness. The band will showcase Gaelic and Scots songs as well as contemporary and traditional melodies from around the Sutherland, Caithness and Ross-Shire areas. The neo-trad group will provide a night of fantastic entertainment and thoroughly enjoyable music. Make sure not to miss them at a venue near you!

Tha Ceilidh air Chuairt Chataibh air a dhèanamh an-àird le seachd luchd-ciùil òg, tàlantach agus dealasach. Tron an t-samhradh, nì iad cuairt timcheall air Cataibh, Gallaibh agus Siorrachd Rois. Cluichidh an còmhlan òrain Ghàidhlig agus Albais a’ bharrachd air puirt ùr agus puirt tradaiseanta bho Chataibh, Ghallaibh agus à Siorrachd Rois. Douglas Murray

Douglas, from Golspie,  is the sole male of the band Douglas 2and plays the guitar and bagpipes. He has performed twice at the Calgary Stampede and toured various parts of Spain with the Sutherland Schools Pipe Band. Douglas has was a member of the Fèis Chataibh Ceilidh Trail in 2014 when they performed at The Royal concert Hall in Glasgow as part of Celtic Connections.

‘S e Douglas, à Goillspidh, an aon fireannach anns a’ chòmhlan agus cluichidh e a’ ghiotàr agus a’ phìob mhòr. Tha e air cluich dà thuras aig an ‘Calgary Stampede’ agus tha e air siubhail gu iomadh àite anns an Spàin còmhla ri Còmhlan Pìob Sgoiltean Chataibh. Fiona MacDonald

Fiona 1Fiona is from
Tain and plays the fiddle. She is a fluent Gaelic speaker. Fiona was part of the Fèis Chataibh Ceilidh Trail 2014 and is a part of the MG Alba Trad award winning group, Gizzenbriggs. With Gizzenbriggs, Fiona performed at Runrig’s 40th Anniversary, Party on the Moor, and has toured Orkney. Fiona performed at the Trad Awards Ceremony in 2014 and at Celtic Connections 2014 as part of Cèol nam Fèis.

Johan Mearns

Johan was brought up in Rogart and is a fluent Gaelic speaker. She started the guitar at age 10 during a Fèis Chataibh Johan 2Summer week. She has played in Gizzenbriggs for 6 years and has performed with them at many different venues across Scotland including Runrig’s 40th Anniversary Concert, Eden Court Theatre and The Edinburgh Festival. Johan has also played as part of various smeller groups throughout Sutherland and Caithness.

Tha i air cluich ann an Gizzen Briggs airson sia bliadhna agus, còmhla riutha, tha i air cluich ann an iomadh diofar àite ann an Alba a’ gabhail a-steach ‘Party on the Moor’ aig Runrig, aig Eden Court agus aig Fèis Dhùn Èideann. Tha Johan cuideachd air cluich mar phàirt de iomadh buidhean beag mun cuairt Cataibh agus Gallaibh.

 

Siobhan Laing

Siobhan 1Siobhan is a local fiddler
and mandolinist from Edderton. She has been a member of the well known Gizzenbriggs for many years. Her musical highlights include playing in Eden Court and a mini tour around Orkney. Siobhan is excited to be part of the ceilidh trail this year.

Caitlin Forbes

Caitlin has played the fiddle for nine Caitlin 2years and she also enjoys singing and drama. She is currently in her fifth year and after her sixth year at school, she would like to follow a career in music and/or drama. She is from Latheron in Caithness and is a member of Wish Accordion and Fiddle Club.

Caitlin Fhoirbeis

Emma Rutherford

EmEmma 2ma is from Proncy Farm, Dornoch, and plays the accordion and fiddle. She has studied at The National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music in Plockton for two years. She has toured Aberdeenshire as well as Caithness and Sutherland with the Fèis Chataibh Ceilidh Trail 2014. She has played with Gizzen Briggs, Sutherland Accordion and Fiddle Club and is starting her own band. She has played at Celtic Connections 2014, the MG Alba Scots Trad. Music Awards and Runrig’s 40th Anniversary concert. She also has an interest in Country and Western music.

Tha i air cluich le Gizzen Briggs, Comann Bogsa agus Fìdheall Chataibh agus tha i a’ tòiseachadh a còmhlan fhèin. Chluich i aig ‘Celtic Connections’ 2014, Oidhche Dhuais Trad MG Alba agus ‘Party on the Moor’ aig Runrig. Tha ùidh aice cuideachd ann an Ceòl Tuath.

 

Anna MacDonald

Hailing from the North end of Skye but now living in Tain, Anna MacDonald, 21, is a keen fiddle player and Gaidhlig singer. A former member of Gizzen Briggs, Anna 1the very successful trad band from Tain Royal Academy, Anna has played all over Scotland at great events such as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Dunkeld Fiddle Festival. Anna was also lucky enough to travel abroad to Amsterdam with the very popular, local group. Anna’s musical highlights are performing with Fèisean nan Gaidheal for their Cèol nam Fèis’ Blas Finale Concert (Celtic Connections 2014) and the MG Alba Scot’s Trad. Music Awards in Inverness.
